The WBA is said to be set to book a world title fight at 135lbs after a draw Gervonta Davies of his black and gold belt in January.
Davis became a ‘champion in the breach’ for the sanctioning bodywhich means he has not been completely taken out of the picture, having received a charge of domestic violence in early 2026.
Naturally, his unsavory behavior outside the ring has led to a long period of inactivity, which is also why the WBA no longer consider him an active promoter.
The 31-year-old’s last outing saw him make a successful WBA title defence, boxing to a controversial draw against Lamont Roach in March 2025, before securing a deal to face Jake Paul in an exhibition match.
However, due to allegations of domestic violence, Davis was eventually pulled from the event and replaced by Anthony Joshua, who scored sixth round finish over Paul in December.
Regarding the vacant WBA lightweight title, boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported via social media on Monday the organization will order a clash between Floyd Schofield and Lucas Badhi.
“Letters were expected to go out this week but (the WBA) told me (on Sunday) that they will book Floyd Schofield-Lucas Bahdi (for the vacant 135(lb) title).”
Schofield has not fought since his first-round finish against Tevin Farmer in June, when the 23-year-old cemented himself as the WBA’s lightweight top contender.
Placed just behind him in the rankings is Bahdi, another undefeated operator, who is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Roger Gutierrez in August.
In accordance with WBA rules and regulations, both sides will be given a 30-day negotiation window once their world title fight is booked, with their matchup going to a purse offer hearing if an agreement cannot be reached.
