President Donald Trump New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani used the moment to highlight what he described as a “significant change in tone” in adopting the Declaration of Independence during a meeting in the Oval Office.
“Zohran has of course come a long way since he was in the Oval Office by embracing the Declaration of Independence – huge progress! President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Including Trump Mamdani’s photo Standing in front of the Declaration of Independence.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Mamdani’s office for comment.

The post comes less than a week after Mamdani visited President Donald Trump The White House for an earlier unscheduled meeting, where the two discussed immigration and housing issues affecting New York City.
Afterward, Mamdani wrote that Trump told him Columbia University student Elina Aghayeva, who he said was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that day, would be released.
“Just got off the phone with President Trump,” Mamdani wrote. “During our meeting I expressed my concerns about Columbia student Elina Aghayeva. Detained by ICE this morning He informed me that she will be released soon.”

Despite public displays of cordiality, Mamdani later criticized US military strikes against Iran that he said had escalated the conflict.
“Today’s military attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel represent a devastating escalation in a war of illegal aggression,” Mamdani wrote. “Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening new theaters of war. The American people don’t want this. They don’t want another war for regime change.”

He added that Americans prefer “affordable crisis relief” and addressed members Iranian community in New York City directly
“You are part of the fabric of this city – you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers and community leaders,” Mamdani wrote. “You’ll be safe here.”

The post drew criticism from conservatives on social media, who saw Mamdani’s reaction There is sympathy for the Iranian regime and noted the lack of public reaction to Iranian protesters who have been killed in recent years.
