Yankee Stadium will see more playoff games this fall, but not for the Bronx Bombers.

New York City FC announced Monday that it “intends to host home games at Yankee Stadium” during the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs, marking the first time in four years that an MLS club has hosted playoff games in the Bronx.

The announcement came less than a week after the Yankees were eliminated from the postseason, opening Yankee Stadium to New York City, which splits its home games between Bronx Ballpark and Citi Field.

The New York club hasn’t hosted a playoff game at Yankee Stadium since 2021, when it defeated Atlanta United 2-0 in the first round en route to the club’s first MLS Cup title.

New York City FC is guaranteed at least one home playoff match in the first round, a best-of-three series with the higher seed earning the right to host Game 1 and Game 3, if necessary.

NYCFC currently sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and could finish fourth, giving them home-field advantage in the postseason, or sixth.

That will be determined Saturday when they face Seattle in the final game of the regular season.

Scheduling has been difficult at times for New York City, especially during this time of year if both New York baseball teams are competing, but the club likely reached its final few years of worrying about the impact the Mets’ and Yankees’ postseason runs had on themselves.

New York City Football Club is scheduled to move to a new soccer-specific stadium next to Citi Field in 2027 when the project is scheduled to be completed.
