The Dodgers’ pitching success shows why the Mets’ rotation approach was wrong

MILWAUKEE — The Dodgers already had ace-level pitchers in their rotation when they decided last winter to add another player.
Enter two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, who arrives on a five-year, $182 million contract, joining Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow, to give the Dodgers three major options.
Also in the rotation mix was Shohei Ohtani in his return to the field after a year of rehab from elbow rebuilding and future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw.
“We felt strongly that (Snell) would not only help us in the regular season achieve that No. 1 goal, but what he would bring to our staff in October,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Monday. “Everyone wants to pitch in October. I think for some, that’s part of who they are and what they long for more than anything else, and I think Blake is one of those guys. … He loves those moments, and just betting on the pitcher, the header, his attention span was something that was the No. 1 goal for us (last) offseason.”
