Son of Norway’s Crown Princess gives evidence at rape trial

The son of Norway’s crown princess is due back in court in Oslo on Thursday for the third day of his trial for rape and more than 30 other alleged crimes.

On Wednesday, Marius Borg Hobie, 29, told the court that he lives a life of partying out of a desperate need for validation.

He was giving evidence after the first woman accused of raping him told the court she “100 per cent” believed she had been drugged during an “after-party” in the basement of Haibei’s parents’ home in December 2018.

He denies four counts of rape as well as other serious charges against him.

The 29-year-old defendant, who was born four years before his mother, Mette-Marit, married Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, is not a member of the royal family or a public figure, but grew up as part of a large family.

The BBC’s Paul Kirby reports from outside the court in Oslo.
