Six US military service members have been killed amid Iran’s retaliation for US and Israeli attacks over the weekend, officials said Monday.
The U.S. military recently recovered two remains previously unaccounted for by service members from a facility that was attacked during Iran’s initial strikes in the area, U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, said.
“Major combat operations are ongoing. Identities of the dead are being withheld for 24 hours after notification of next of kin,” said a Centcom post on X States.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah was killed after the US attack Ali KhameneiTehran launched attacks on US military bases in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as Israel.
On Monday, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Cain, said more US troops are moving to the Middle East amid an escalation fueled by Iran.

The U.S. mission in Iran, Kaine said, “is to prevent Iran from being able to project power beyond its borders.”
