Shakur Stevenson has responded to the news that he has been removed from his WCP light weight title.

The 28-year-old pound-for-pound star moved to extremely light weight last weekend to release Teofimo Lopez from his WBO beltPut in to win almost every round on the scorecards.

Moving back to light weight is an option for the world champion who is now four sections, but if he does, he will not be a champion there. In a statement released today, WLGA announced that the title won Stevenson back in November 2023 was now vacantly declared.

“In light of the fact that the Stevenson champion is now a great light weight world champion who reigns and is consistent with WLC’s rules and regulations, the WBC has declared its light world title empty.

“WLGC wishes to continued success for champion Stevenson in all its future efforts, both inside and outside the area.

“WBL will provide more information on the process to crown a new lightweight world champion in the near future.”

Despite the good wishes, Stevenson did not kindly make the decision. Responding on social media Shortly after the announcement he said:

“And just paid these dudes after my last fight … What is the hell (am I) giving all 100k right now? Because you have a beef with a bud so come to me for it.”

“100k for some crooks they don’t deserve? Nah Leilani I prefer to give to your little girl… WMA didn’t even have this battle and he eats them alive. Take your belt, it doesn’t make me.”

Stevenson refers to the recent WBC run with Terence Crawford – a close friend, mentor and training partner – which was removed from its own green and gold ultra -medium weight belt for, according to the sanctioning body, not paying the relevant fees. Crawford, who had won the title alongside the other three major strapes, retired by beating Canelo Alvarez, shortly after, but not before the introduction of a devastating rust on the WBC.

Stevenson’s next move is still in the air, although pushing for another title with the World Boxing Council could be out of the question.
