Rolly gave no examples of who would have to worry about WBC Stevenson (24-0, 11 Kos) champion in 135. They are not the only big punishers lightly. There is Abdullah Mason and Jadier Herrera, which would be dangerous for Stevenson to fight.
Although he had little power, Zepeda stunned Stevenson with a left hand in the third round. If Zepeda had contacted more shots to the head, it could have made a lot worse. After hurt, Shakur did a good job of pressing his head back to avoid or take the effect of Zepeda’s punch.
Lack of Zepeda Power
“It was a great performance, but the dose has no power,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero i Boxing newsSpeaking of Shakur Stevenson’s victory over William Zepeda last Saturday night. “William Zepeda has one of the top punch outputs in boxing.”
Stevenson wanted to fight Zepeda so badly a clear indication that he didn’t care about his punching power. That was a sign of telling a story that he sees him as a non -threatening one. The fighters that Shakur never mentioned, Mason, Schofield, and Herrera, would be a serious threat.
Real punchers against volume
“Anyone who has to throw 100 threshing round to get you out of there, they have no power. My niece can bush me 100 times in the face, and I’ll sleep. Real punchers, they only need one or two punches, and you’re out cold. So he didn’t fight with Phuncher,” said Rolly about Shakur.
What makes Zepeda tremendous is his volume and his body punching. He landed a lot of shots to Shakur’s body, but the judges did not score them. If he had much more power, he would have forced Stevenson to move. However, Shakur began to move in the ninth round after eating some hard body shots from Zepeda. You could say that he was bothered by that punch because he was no longer ready to be still.
Rolly won’t fight against Shakur
“I’m not entertaining fighters like that. Not my kind,” said Romero when asked if he would be open to fighting Stevenson at 147. “The second they are hit one time clean, they run around the ring.”
