The music teacher at the Catholic School in Louisiana claimed that he was expelled after one of the parents discovered the obituary of his late wife and accused him of violating the condition of morals in the school.

Mark Richards had been working at St. Francis Catholic Catholic School in Metaye for more than 20 years before he had a changing job triggered.

One of the parents reported the obituary of the late teacher’s husband, John Maysinger, to the Diocese of New Orleans and accused the teacher of “lying” about his romantic and living life.

The music teacher claimed that school principals knew that he is a gay man, and they did not face any problem until a complaint was filed in May.

The absolute teacher added: “Because I signed 20 years of contracts with the condition of morals that lied to my contracts, this was the reason for my dismissal.” “I have not lied to my contracts over the past two years, I live with three dogs.”

“Inclusion of activity in gay sexual activity” is listed in the ethics item in addition to obtaining miscarriage, carrying “outside the framework of marriage”, and a child “outside the husband” denotes, according to the paragraph of the morals obtained by WDSU.

“If John is a woman, we will not sit here, it will not be a problem,” Richards suggested.

Richards married his late wife in 2014 and stayed together until Missinger died in 2023 after a heart attack.

Saint Francis Kazavier sent an email to parents, asserting that Richards “does not return” to the college in the academic year 2025-2026, according to WDSU News.

The statement added that “there is no official or faculty member of the faculty guaranteed a contract for more than a year,” but he will not comment more.

The philosophy of the Catholic School is rooted in “creating an environment in which a Christian method of thinking and life is all aspects of the tutorial program by focusing on spiritual, moral, intellectual, individual, social, physical and cultural growth for its students,” according to its website.

More than 1500 parents signed a petition to change the ethics item and showed support for Richards.

“I would like the line to be removed in terms of homosexuality in the ethics item that the teachers signed to remove,” father Catherine Lee told WDSU News. “Your identity is not your morals. I hope we have a voice in this.”
