Jared Vanderbilt saves Luka Doncic in a fight with JJ Redick

Doncic — the franchise’s newest crown jewel — was walking toward the Lakers’ bench when Redick reached out and grabbed his arm. It wasn’t violent, but hard enough to get Doncic’s attention.

The two exchanged words along the sideline as Riddick followed Doncic back to the Lakers bench. Doncic sat down and the player and coach continued to exchange words before Redick made a final comment and began walking back toward the scorer’s table. That’s when Luca appeared as if a match had just been lit with gasoline.

Fortunately, Lakers forward Jared Vanderbilt was nearby to witness the whole thing, and he immediately rose from the bench with a loud, deliberate clap, inserting himself into the space like a seasoned diplomat breaking up a bar brawl before the first punch could fly.

Vanderbilt’s actions were subtle, but remarkable. It obviously saved everyone from turning a heated exchange into a headline that would have sunk the topic Lakers 129-101 dominant win.
