I Refused to Accept My Daughter’s Homeschooling Choice, but Then She Revealed the Truth / Bright Side

Dear Bright Side,
I (58, female) have always been an active part of my daughter Emma’s life. At 32, she has two wonderful children, Timmy (8, male) and Sophie (6, female), and I’ve been there for it all: birthday parties, school dropouts, and countless play dates. Our relationship wasn’t always perfect, but we shared a bond of trust and support.
So when Emma announced she was taking the kids out of school to homeschool them, I was shocked. She has always advocated traditional education, so this decision seemed completely out of character for her. I told her I couldn’t support her choice. I was worried about the lack of structure, the socialization her kids might miss, and whether she could handle it all. She simply asked me to trust her judgement.
Instead, she argued. I reminded her of her previous beliefs and lectured her about what I thought was best. We fought, and in the end, she left frustrated, convinced she was making a mistake.
