Hamzah Sheeraz Vs. David Benavidez: Supporters insist on light heavyweight conflict after Berlanga Ko
Fans of social media are overwhelming wanting for Hamzah Sheeraz to fight David Benavidez Next, following his fifth round victory over Edgar Berlanga last Saturday night in Queens, New York.
Sheeraz, 26, would have to move up to 175 to a battle against the Benavidez lightweight heavyweight champion Benavidez. Benavidez’s ‘The Mexican Monster’ is too big to return to Section 168 lbs to fight Sheeraz.
Who Sheeraz Fights Next: Fan Options
- David Benavidez: People want to see Hamzah take on the Benavidez two division world champion. This battle would give Sheeraz the experience he needs to fight against Canelo.
- Canelo Alvarez: Fighting against the Alvarez supermarket is considered too premature for Sheeraz. He has no experience or testimonials to fight Canelo yet. Beating Berlanga, fans of a fighter considered a hype job, did not enough to make fans believe that Hamzah is ready for Canelo.
- David Morrell: The talented Cuban gave in easily the most entertaining battle of the card last night in Queens with his victory over Imam Khataev. Morrell’s technical and explosive punch skills make him an exciting choice for Hamzah.
- Jermall Charlo: A marginal interest in Hamzah fights against the former 35-year-old mid-weight champion. Charlo has not kept active enough with his career for him to be a viable choice.
- Chris EuBank Jr: A career domestic level fighter, EuBank Jr., 35, has not shown the ambition to fight fighters at the world level. Besides money, Sheeraz would win little by fighting EuBank Jr.
The real question is, would Hamzah and his promoter Frank Warren agree to fight a dangerous fighter like Benavidez? It’s suspicious. There is too much risk involved, and the outcome would likely be disastrous for Sheeraz, with him cast out by Benavidez.
What about Canelo Alvarez next?
Turki Alakshikh said he wanted Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 kos) to fight Canelo Alvarez in 2026. However, those feelings are not mutual with fans. They want Sheraz to prove himself against a talented fighter.
Supporters note that Berlanga is a subpar fighter with a resume built on 100%common fighters. He was not the kind of actual test that should lead to Hamzah getting the world’s title shot against the undisputed large mid -weight champion, Canelo.
“I’m probably what everyone is going to be talking about now. It’s about embracing him and not encountering him as disrespectful towards Canelo,” Hamzah Sheeraz told the reap Last night when he was asked about the conversation he comes to fight against the next 168-weight champion Canelo Alvarez.
“I’m ready now,” said Hamzah about whether he’s prepared for a stardom after his victory over Berlanga. “I did the hard work at the gym, and got the results tonight.”
