A good man was stabbed for trying to stop a thief from stealing a woman’s cell phone just steps from Columbus Circle over the weekend, cops said.
The violent robber, who was seen dressed all in black, took the 35-year-old woman’s phone at West 58th Street and Ninth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, police said.
The 39-year-old philanthropist discovered the theft and tried to get the device away from the thief, but to no avail, according to cops.
The armed bandit then turned on Al-Samari and stabbed him in the stomach “with an unknown tool,” police said.
The injured man was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where his condition was described as stable.
Meanwhile, the unnamed phone snatching victim is “still a little traumatized by the whole experience,” her mother told The Post by phone on Monday, describing the ordeal as “just crazy.”
She said: “She is fine, but the man who was trying to help her and who was injured is still in the hospital.” “He underwent surgery.”
The victim’s mother added: “Her phone was stolen, I know that.” “Someone was trying to help her.”
The assailant, who fled on foot, had not been arrested until Monday.
