Minneapolis is preparing for a large-large dinner party, they will need a long table of seven blocks.

It is called Du Nord. An estimated 2000 people will be able to sit for a meal in Nicollet Mall, with the food provided by dozens of local restaurants.

The organizers announced the event this week; It is scheduled to be held on September 11.

“We cannot prove exactly that this will be the longest dinner table in America, but I dare to try to prove that it is not.” Said Scott Mayer, founder and producer of the event.

Each restaurant will have a specific list available, as ticket prices vary depending on the restaurant. Online tickets now range from about $ 25 to $ 200.

Angie Whitcomb is the president and CEO of Hospitality Minnesota, one of the many sponsors of this event. She said it is a new idea to highlight both local restaurants and the city center.

“Nicollet Mall is really an advantage that we should celebrate more,” said Whitomemb. “To be able to combine society in such a beautiful place – it’s the right thing to do.”

Chef Edward Chang, the owner of Pau Pao Book, was registered for cooking. He decided on a meal of four dishes: Asian pear salad, Pao, Rafaoli, Tart Yuzo. He said he was inspired by traditional Chinese cuisine, with an effect of other foods with which he grew up, such as French and Italian.

Zhang said he was excited to get many people who share a meal.

“For all my dinner, this is one of my goals, is to make strangers talk to each other,” said Zhang. “Nowadays, society was only, everyone is on their phones. They are not talking to anyone. But I want everyone to get to know each other.”

This is also a way to strengthen local restaurants, as owners are cited with increasing costs and financial troubles. Two restaurants in Minneapolis – Yong Johnny and Stepchld – A closure was announced in June.

“Anything we can do to help support restaurants and create an environment that can flourish – this is our mission,” Whitomemb said.

Part of the returns goes to House Foundation HelpA non -profit institution aimed at supporting hospitality workers.

Tickets are now on sale for this event. Tickets and menus are available connected.
