Devin Haney calls Shakur Stevenson the biggest battle in boxing
Devin Haney used social media on Tuesday to revitalize the talk about a long -standing match with Shakur Stevenson, calling him the “biggest boxing battle” and outlining a loose wish list that also includes Keyswein Davis.
Haney said he wanted Stevenson first, and then Davis, pressing into the language of familiarity rather than competition.
Stevenson and Davis have known each other since their amateur days and constantly referring together as brothers, which helps explain the attention of the “big bro of Bro” Haney and the order in which they named.
“Me and Shakur are the next biggest fight in boxing! I want him & keyswein. Bro Bach then Bro Fawr!” Haney wrote on X.
“I’m fine with a big brother (keyshawn) first too,” said Haney.
Any serious movement towards the Battle of Stevenson would likely come with conditions. Haney recently needed a rehydration clause in discussions with Conor Benn, and the same demand would be almost certainly involved in these discussions. Agree to him would shape the battle at the contract level and indicate how much control Haney intends to maintain if the pulse is completed.
There is also a clear business risk. Stevenson fights involves taking a tough opponent in a bout that might not guarantee the same pay day as a second fight with Ryan Garcia.
Stevenson’s loss would not end Haney’s stance, but would complicate his leverage and delay the path back to a second big game. Unless Devin is going to receive a huge payday, it is not worth the risk associated with Shakur fighting.
We have seen how he tends to reduce his opponent’s offense by moving around the circle, making him look ugly. Stevenson could do so against Haney and shut down its punching output down to a drop. Shakur would not land much either, but he is good at winning these kinds of fights. Devin is not familiar with those types of fighting.
