Bernie Davis urges ‘Boots’ to fight against Bakhram Murtazaliev
Coach Bernie Davis says he wants to see Jaron in ‘Boots’ Ennis chasing the “The Boogeyman” of Section 154 lbs, IBF Bakhram Murtazaliev’s champion, next to prove himself.
Davis notes that with the way in which Ennis Champion Eddie Hearn, kidnapping him as replacing Terence Crawford, he wants him to take a real risk by fighting Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOS) next. He does not consider that WBA champion, Abass Baraou, is worthy of fighting ‘boots’.
Strike while the victory is fresh
It was only briefly that Hearn mentioned Murtazaliev’s name last Saturday after the first round win of Ennis over Uisma Lima in Philadelphia. The most mentioned fighter was the Junior Middle Weight Champion Vergil Ortiz Jr., which he regards as the first step towards winning a fight against Crawford. I disagree. Ennis is ready for Crawford now.
There is no need to beat Vergil Jr. and Bakhram for ‘shoes’ to call out Crawford and fight it now before it gets much older. He is already an excuse that works for him if he loses by saying he is 38 years old.
If Ennis stays another year or two, Crawford will hit 40; He is not going to have much of his beating inheritance. The time is now. Crawford has just beaten Canelo Alvarez, and while that victory is still fresh, ‘boots’ should be fighting her before he dressed away. You saw how Crawford dressed down he was looking after the fighting. He all looked at 38 and then some, and he fought as one too. Only Canelo is worse.
Beating bakhram means something
“If Bakhram is the boogeyman, and this guy (Ennis) is a hybrid of Roy Jones Jr. and Terence Crawford, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be fighting against this guy,” said coach Bernie Davis I Millcity Boxing About that Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis wants to challenge the IBF 154-weight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev next.
Bakhram, 32, has not fought since last year when Tim Tszyu stopped in the third round on October 19, 2024. Who knows how that year affected him out of the area? Also, he had never beaten anyone notable before that fighting, and he had trouble against Jack Culcay. As we saw in Tszyu’s recent seventh -round stop to Sebastian Fundora on July 19, it is not as good as fans thought it. Fundora is not a big puncher, but he defeated Tszyu.
“I’m looking for him to make a statement against Bakhram. Because that child is going to no fight,” said Davis. “If he (Ennis) fights WBA (Abass Baraou) champion, we may also cancel it. I don’t want to hear anything about ‘shoes’ no more. If he doesn’t fight Bakhram, Vergil Ortiz or Xander Zayas.
Baraou (17-1, 9 kos) as a better fighter than WBO Xander Zayas champion. The way he performed in his unanimous decision 12 recent rounds over the 154-weight champion Interim WBA Yoenis Tellez, it’s harder than Zayas. If the shoe was on the other foot, Xander could not have done so for the Cuban Tellez.
Davis: Boots vs Vergil is 50-50
“I prefer it for Xander. I think he and Vergil Ortiz are a 50-50 battle because Vergil will not be stunned by those combinations,” said Davis.
