A beloved Bay Area meteorologist disappeared from the airwaves earlier this month, and now he’s finally sharing the story behind his sudden absence.
For more than two decades, Spencer Christian, 78, has been a trusted performer at KGO-TV, walking viewers through the weather every afternoon at 4 and 6 p.m. since 1999.

But his familiar predictions were suddenly halted, leaving viewers wondering what happened to the well-known forecaster.
Over the weekend, Christian I took to Facebook To share heartfelt life update with his followers.
“On February 9, I underwent open heart surgery to repair the mitral and tricuspid valves, correct the arrhythmia, and install a pacemaker. After a 6-day hospital stay, I was discharged from the hospital, and I am now recovering in the comfort of home,” he wrote.

He also told fans to expect him back on air in April if there are no complications.
“My strength, energy and appetite are slowly but surely improving; the next 2 to 3 weeks are expected to bring more rapid gains. In fact, I am already doing light to moderate exercises at home to rebuild my strength, endurance and flexibility,” Christian explained, adding that he is very grateful to his teammates, family and friends.
“I have never felt more loved or blessed than you made me feel through your warm expressions of love, concern and well wishes.”
