Baraou throws his name in the ‘boots’ hat
Baraou (17-1, 9 ko) would like to prove his skills against the unbeaten ennis (35-0, 31 kos) if the match can be negotiated. He says he brings a lot of weight, and he would look forward to seeing how ‘Boots’ deals with that.
“We’ll be down for a battle like this. I’m willing to fight ‘shoes,'” said WBA’s junior middleweight champion, Abass Baraou, Pro boxing fans for his interest in defense against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
Eddie Hearn Eyes Ortiz, but Baraou stays
Ennis and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, both mentioned Abass’s name at the press conference after the fighting last Saturday night after he did first-round collapse against Lima (14-2, 10 kos) at the Xfinity mobile arena in Philadelphia. However, they both knew they would like to fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr next if possible.
“I’m looking forward to fighting great. I bring a lot of weight. I would love to see how he deals with a fighter like me. I would be an opponent to prove that I am the best,” said Abass.
Baraou was promoted to WBA 154 champion on September 21-23, 2025. This was shortly after the previous champion, Terence Crawford, left the title on September 13. For Baraou to give himself in line for the elevation, a temporary Junior Weight Champion defeated WBA WBA.
“Top Rank has reached out to make a merger with Xander. Vergil Ortiz is also an opponent I want to prove myself against it. We look forward to making the next big battle happen. I like to fight Xander,” said Baraou.
Can Baraou tempt Ennis into a title fight?
It would be a wise move for Baraou to go in the direction of combat merger against WBO Xander Zayas champion to lift his belt for use as an attraction to attract ‘boots’ Ennis to face. Having only one title may not be enough to baraou of interest to ‘shoes’ and Hearn.
