Alec Baldwin blames ‘whale-sized’ garbage truck and ‘big fat tree’ for smashing wife Hilaria’s car in the Hamptons
Alec Baldwin blamed a massive garbage truck that was “the size of a whale” for causing him to crash his wife’s Range Rover into a “big, fat tree” in the Hamptons on Monday afternoon.
Baldwin, 67, and his younger brother Stephen Baldwin In a car accident after crashing head-on into a tree on the side of Montauk Highway in East Hampton.
The brothers, who were born and raised an hour outside of Long Island’s suburban paradise, were enjoying a cruise in Hilaria Baldwin’s white Range Rover when they veered off the track.
However, the elder Baldwin blamed the fiasco on a garbage truck that was “the size of a whale,” which he said blocked his path in a video posted on Instagram.
“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car – my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about it. But everything is fine, I’m fine, my brother is fine,” he said, ignoring any possible wrongdoing.
A National Waste Services garbage truck was at the scene after the accident, according to photos obtained by The Post.
Baldwin’s bizarre video detailing the incident was skipped between the actual wreckage and a retelling of the weekend at the Hamptons International Film Festival, which he attended during its closing night on Sunday.
He spent part of the video congratulating all participants in the film festival, including his fellow chairs and members of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.
Baldwin repeatedly emphasized that he and his brother were fine, and thanked the courageous efforts of law enforcement.
The actor specifically highlighted “Officer Gerken” of the East Hampton Police Department for his assistance at the scene.
“As sweet as he can be, as fun as he can be about the whole thing,” Baldwin praised.
However, Baldwin’s final round of thanks was muddled when he delivered obligatory compliments to his wife, 41-year-old Hilaria Baldwin, perhaps to cover his bases for destroying her original car.
“Hilaria, I love you more than anything,” he said. “I am so proud of you.”
Baldwin, as if rehearsing a keynote speaking segment Ahead of the next season of his reality TV showHe added that he is preparing for a trip to visit his family outside the West.
He said: “I’m going to Los Angeles to see my family. I can’t wait. I’m going to California to gather my family, spend a few days there and then come home.”
He promised one last time that he was fine, “other than” his usual madness, he added jokingly, making a circular motion with his finger next to his head.
